MIAX to refresh CH4 switches

MIAX's options exchanges are planning a hardware refresh of customer-facing CH4 disaster recovery extranet edge switches on September 25, 2026, after the market closes. The upgrade covers MIAX Options, MIAX Pearl Options, MIAX Emerald Options and MIAX Sapphire Options, with firms not required to make any configuration changes before the switch replacement.

Highlights

  • MIAX Exchanges will replace all CH4 extranet edge switches with updated models on September 25, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET.
  • The upgrade affects the disaster recovery environment for MIAX Options, MIAX Pearl Options, MIAX Emerald Options, and MIAX Sapphire Options, but requires no configuration changes from firms.
  • Mandatory testing for connectivity and system validation is set for September 26, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon ET, aligned with the 2026 SIFMA pre-testing schedule.

Upgrade schedule and infrastructure scope

As reported by MIAX Exchange Group, citing MIAX Exchanges, the hardware refresh is set for Friday, September 25, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET, after trading ends. The exchange group says all CH4 extranet edge switches will be replaced on a one-to-one basis with an updated model, while firm Cross Connects, or CCs, will be moved to the same ports on the new equipment.

The notice says the work affects the disaster recovery environment for MIAX Options, MIAX Pearl Options, MIAX Emerald Options and MIAX Sapphire Options. MIAX says firms do not need to make changes for the hardware upgrade itself, but they must verify connectivity and application access once the replacement is complete.

Mandatory testing and operational impact

Required testing is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon ET. Firms must verify light levels and IP routing, log in to each subscribed application across all relevant 10G ULL and 1G LL cross connects, and confirm heartbeat receipt for both A and B market data feeds across subscribed multicast feeds.

After completing those checks, firms must email MIAX Trading Operations to confirm connectivity. MIAX says the testing date coincides with the 2026 SIFMA pre-testing schedule to reduce operational disruption, and the exchange is asking firms to contact Trading Operations to arrange testing or obtain additional information.

Our earlier report on Microsoft’s Virginia data-centre dispute examined the intensifying debate over who should pay upfront for power-grid transmission upgrades tied to large-scale infrastructure expansion. The article highlighted Microsoft’s appeal of a state order shifting transmission costs directly to data-centre developers and linked the case to wider scrutiny over electricity bills and potential stranded infrastructure as data-centre growth accelerates.
