Highlights

  • Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) trades at $214.33, just above its MA-200 ($214.29), but well below MA-20 ($221.03) and MA-50 ($225.72), signaling persistent selling pressure.
  • Bearish daily momentum is confirmed by a negative MACD and ADX at 44.84, with both RSI (43.24) and CCI showing near-oversold conditions, implying seller exhaustion risk.
  • For the upcoming week, AMZN is projected to trade between $210.41 and $215.47, with less than 20% probability of a price increase and potential for further declines if support fails.

Bearish momentum and oversold signals as sellers show signs of fatigue

Momentum indicators paint a mixed picture. The daily MACD remains negative, signaling bearish momentum, while the ADX at 44.84 points to a strong trend skewed to the downside. Both the RSI (43.24) and Stoch RSI are near oversold territory, and the CCI confirms this with a deeply negative reading, highlighting the risk of short-term exhaustion from sellers. BBP remains negative, suggesting sellers continue to dominate intraday trading. The stock is near the upper end of today’s range ($214.49 high, $212.67 low), reflecting indecision as intraday moves are not fully aligned with daily momentum.

Downside risk favored as price stalls near support amid weak bullish outlook

For the upcoming week, the projected price range is $210.41 to $215.47. Based on higher timeframe momentum and trend indicators, the probability of a price increase is very low (less than 20%), making a further decline more likely. The base case sees AMZN trading sideways between $210.41 and $215.47. A bullish scenario requires a break above $215.47 and $224.25, while a bearish break below $210.41 opens room for additional downside as long-term support gives way.

Anton Kharitonov, Traders Union expert, points out that Amazon shares are facing persistent technical weakness, holding just above the MA-200 but struggling beneath shorter moving averages and showing little sign of bullish reversal. He notes that momentum indicators remain dominated by bearish signals, with oversold readings warning of possible short-term exhaustion but not confirming a decisive bounce. Kharitonov remains defensive given the negligible probability of upward movement and the risk of further breakdown below $210.41. "Base case remains sideways or lower — until buyers reclaim $215.47, I don't trust any upside attempts."

Previously it was noted that Amazon South Africa launched temporary physical stores under the Shop Mzansi brand to connect entrepreneurs and shoppers. The initiative was timed to spotlight locally made products and facilitate entrepreneur-shopper interaction during Heritage Day.
