Individuals in the U.S. filing as a married couple with a median income of approximately $120,000 face a maximum federal tax of $3,340 each if they have no children, according to Kevin Bryan.
Bryan explains that with children, this tax drops to between $0 and $1,140 each, and if filers are over 65, the amount is $2,422. He adds that if the income were capital gains rather than labor, no federal tax would be due at these income levels. Additionally, residents in nine states also pay no state income tax.
