Erica York shared that Tax Foundation estimates show OBBBA would reduce U.S. taxes by $129 billion in 2025, averaging $611 in relief per filer.
York noted that their analysis did not specify what portion would be received as refunds versus reductions in tax balances due, but emphasized that both outcomes constitute tax relief for filers.
York has previously reported that average U.S. tax refunds are $350 higher than last year, with overall refunds rising by $23 billion. In a separate update, she noted that average refunds had dipped by $53 in one week but still remained $352 above the previous year's level. Total refunds at that point were up nearly $20 billion compared to last year.
