Eric Balchunas: Real estate shows highest passive ownership at 29 percent
Real estate leads passive ownership ranks

Eric Balchunas, Senior ETF Analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, highlights that real estate has the highest passive ownership among sectors at 29 percent, due to the popularity of smart beta dividend ETFs. Utilities display a similar trend in passive ownership proportions based on his analysis.

Balchunas recently noted that the number of ETF closures has climbed as fund issuers liquidate younger products, with average ages at closure dropping this year, according to his prior reporting. He has also pointed out the U.S. stock market's history of rebounding from downturns to set new all-time highs, as detailed in a previous article.
