Joe Burnett: High volatility leads to frequent 50 percent drawdowns for Bitcoin
Bitcoin faces 50 percent regular drawdowns

Joe Burnett highlights that assets with a 40 percent compound annual growth rate and 70 percent volatility are almost certain to experience 50 percent drawdowns on a regular basis.

He points to Bitcoin, which is currently trading roughly 50 percent off its all time high, as an example fitting this profile.

Burnett previously noted that Bitcoin is trading below its all-time high from five years ago, a pattern also seen in 2022 (link). Eight months after reaching a record high, he observed that sentiment around Bitcoin remains weak (link). These observations are consistent with the drawdown trends he describes.
