Torsten Bell reports that inflation in the UK has come in lower than expected for the second consecutive month. The decline observed last month has been sustained.
Bell highlights that while the conflict in the Middle East has driven up some prices, overall inflation in the UK has decreased this year, which contrasts with rising inflation in other advanced economies.
Bell previously reported that inflation had already started to fall earlier this year. He noted in April that inflation was down, while growth and investment were rising and borrowing had decreased. At that time, he also cautioned about challenges ahead for the UK economy.
