Monetary scripting enables data embedding in bitcoin, Stephan Livera argues
Restricting opcodes will not curb embedding

Stephan Livera, head of education and podcast host at Swan Bitcoin, questions the effectiveness of banning certain bitcoin opcodes as a solution to prevent spammers from embedding data on-chain.

He states that as long as monetary scripting exists, actors can find new methods to embed data, especially with developments in AI. Livera advocates for increasing bitcoin adoption rather than implementing protocol bans and expresses opposition to BIP110.

Livera recently launched a Bitcoin Node Cost Tracker and dashboard as the debate over on-chain spam has intensified. He has previously commented on resilience in the ecosystem, noting the continued growth in bitcoin lightning network volumes despite a 50% drop from peak levels. These initiatives reflect his ongoing involvement in technical discussions within the bitcoin community.
