Batten has previously examined Bitcoin mining’s potential to address landfill methane emissions when paired with carbon credits, describing possible profitability in such initiatives in an earlier report. He has also highlighted health risks for the 15 million people living near landfills and considered the impact of Bitcoin mining in mitigating these issues in subsequent coverage. Batten’s recent reporting on academic sourcing follows these research-focused investigations.
