Nasdaq 100 slides 1.5% today

Nasdaq 100 Index (NDX) fell 1.5%, pressured by intensified selling momentum amid persistent technical weakness. The move is supported by the index trading below its 20- and 50-day moving averages, indicating that short- and medium-term downside forces remain firmly in play.

Highlights

  • Janus Henderson introduced JQQQ, the first blockchain-native fund that tracks the Nasdaq-100 Index, exclusively on the Stellar network for non-US professional investors with at least 100,000 invested.
  • JQQQ broadens Janus Henderson's regulated digital asset platform at a time of intensified selling activity in the Nasdaq-100 Index.
  • Nasdaq 100 fell 1.5% to 29,364 and is projected to trade between 28,863 and 29,866 over the next five days, with bearish technical signals and a 60% probability of a further decline.

Blockchain-native fund launch coincides with heightened index selling pressure

Janus Henderson, in partnership with Centrifuge under license from Nasdaq, launched JQQQ, the first blockchain-native fund designed to track the Nasdaq-100 Index. This fund is issued exclusively on the Stellar network for eligible non-US professional investors with a minimum investment of $100,000. JQQQ expands Janus Henderson's onchain platform into regulated digital asset offerings, accompanied by broader selling pressure in the index.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views the recent 1.5% Nasdaq 100 decline as a structural warning. He believes trading below the 20- and 50-day moving averages confirms underlying technical weakness. Institutional sentiment is unimproved despite the JQQQ blockchain fund launch, which did little to counteract negative flows and broad selling. Kharitonov points out pervasive weakness in momentum, with MACD and ADX in sell mode and the RSI pointing toward mild bearishness. "Without a decisive rebound above 29,470, downside risk dominates and capital preservation should be the focus," Kharitonov cautions.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees this period as an opportunity driven by constructive structural trends. He notes that despite recent weakness, the index remains above its 200-day average, preserving the longer-term bullish structure. The introduction of JQQQ showcases growing institutional adoption of digital assets and could fuel new investment flows. Karapetjanc expects the underlying strength to prevail if resistance at 29,470 is reclaimed and highlights prospects for further growth. "I believe the market’s bullish foundation remains intact and new products like JQQQ can ultimately support a robust recovery," Karapetjanc affirms.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, notes the Nasdaq 100 faces a tug of war between early session selling and mixed intraday signals. He highlights that intraday buyers remain engaged, as BBP readings indicate overbought risks but also ongoing demand. Turakhiya sees the upcoming sessions as rangebound with defined support at 29,257 and resistance at 29,470, where volatility may produce tradable sentiment-driven moves. "For now, I am focusing on tactical setups within the forecast range and watching for a clear break to signal momentum," he says.

Short-term technical levels hold amid diverging momentum signals

Nasdaq 100 is trading beneath its 20-day (30,110) and 50-day (29,813) moving averages but remains above the 200-day (27,894), highlighting prevailing short- and medium-term selling pressure despite a maintained long-term bullish structure. Immediate resistance is identified at 29,470 with support at 29,257. Momentum indicators such as MACD and ADX are in sell mode, and the RSI at 49.42 suggests weak momentum and a mild bearish bias. Stochastic RSI and CCI are neutral, while BBP at 151.34 signals buyers are still active intraday, though overbought risks are present. The session showed pronounced early pressure and mixed intraday signals due to momentum and oscillator divergences.

Earlier, analysts noted that the Nasdaq 100 was facing downside risk as the index struggled to regain short- and medium-term technical strength despite structural developments such as the blockchain-based fund launch. The current analysis reinforces this view, as fresh selling momentum keeps the index below key moving averages, making the 29,470 resistance a critical level for any potential bullish reversal in the days ahead.
