Loida Nicolas Lewis is a prominent Filipino-American businesswoman, lawyer, and philanthropist. Born in 1942 in the Philippines, she became the first Filipino woman to pass the New York Bar without studying in the U.S. She earned her law degree from the University of the Philippines and initially worked in immigration law in the U.S. Her life took a dramatic turn when she married Reginald F. Lewis, a pioneering African American businessman who led a historic leveraged buyout of Beatrice International, forming TLC Beatrice. After his untimely death in 1993, Loida took over as Chair and CEO, skillfully managing the multinational company until 2000. Under her leadership, TLC Beatrice continued to grow, and she made key strategic decisions, including the sale of company assets, that ultimately maximized its profitability. Outside of business, Loida is a passionate advocate for the Filipino-American community and co-founded several organizations, such as the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA). Additionally, she is actively involved in philanthropy through the Reginald F. Lewis Foundation, which supports education and minority initiatives
