Ocugen, Inc. has unveiled topline results from its Phase 2 ArMaDa trial for OCU410, showing a 31 percent reduction in geographic atrophy (GA) lesion growth at 12 months compared to control.

The treatment also demonstrated roughly twice the effect compared to currently approved therapies, with preserved ellipsoid zone (EZ) structure and a favorable safety profile. Ocugen, Inc. described OCU410 as a potential one-and-done therapy that could lower overall treatment burden for patients with GA.

These results could signal an important step forward in the development of more durable solutions for geographic atrophy.

Ocugen, Inc. has stepped up its development of modifier gene therapies to treat major diseases causing blindness, according to an earlier report on the company's innovation efforts. The company is also working on gene therapies targeting hundreds of mutations with the aim of addressing the $132 billion global vision loss burden detailed in a recent article. These initiatives frame Ocugen's broader push into gene therapy solutions for eye health.
