Mike Konczal: U.S. unemployment falls as jobs increase by 178,000
U.S. jobs climb, unemployment falls

The U.S. labor market continued to show strength with a solid jobs report, according to Mike Konczal. Unemployment fell after being somewhat elevated during the winter, and the report highlighted a gain of 178,000 jobs. Konczal noted that recent revisions to previous data largely balanced each other out.

The numbers suggest continued momentum in the U.S. job market despite prior fluctuations.

Konczal has previously raised concerns about the classification of the core non-housing PCE services metric in U.S. economic data. Earlier this year, he also flagged seven months of accelerating U.S. PCE inflation. Both issues remain relevant alongside the recent labor market gains.
