Diesel supplies remain tight with refineries struggling, Alexander Stahel notes
Diesel shortage despite ample crude supply

Alexander Stahel, founder / CIO at Commodity Private Equity Fund, observes growing pressure in oil product markets.

Stahel notes that while crude oil is available, diesel—described as the product most needed by the world—remains in short supply, with Brent priced at $96 and European diesel at $191. He attributes this situation to damaged refineries, lower operating rates, mismatched crude grades, depleted inventories, and increased freight costs, highlighting a downstream oil crisis marked by product scarcity.

Stahel has previously tracked trends outside energy, reporting that Chinese home prices continue to decline despite government intervention. In another update, he highlighted Citadel’s estimated $30 billion in profits from its energy trading unit. Stahel’s commentary spans key developments in both real estate and global energy trading.
