U.S. 10-year yield hits 5 percent

Alexander Stahel, founder / CIO at Commodity Private Equity Fund, compares the current U.S. 10-year Treasury yield and national debt to their levels in 2006.

The yield is back at 5 percent, matching its mark from 2006, but marketable U.S. Treasury debt is now over $30 trillion, up from $4.4 trillion in 2006, highlighting the significant increase in debt the market must now absorb at the same interest rate.

Stahel has previously tracked ongoing trends in global markets. He reported that Chinese home prices continued to decline each month despite government intervention. In another report, he noted that Citadel’s energy trading unit generated $30 billion according to Griffin’s estimates, as detailed in his review of Citadel’s performance.
