IBM stock targets $244 as Lightwell expansion supports recovery
IBM is expanding the Lightwell ecosystem by providing free access to universities and nonprofit organizations across the United States. The shares continue to recover after breaking above $230, while a move toward $244 remains the base-case scenario.
The key development was the expansion of the Lightwell program, developed jointly by IBM and Red Hat to help protect open-source software. The companies will provide free access to the platform to more than 185 research universities, as well as 100 nonprofit organizations and think tanks across the United States.
Lightwell combines AI-powered automation with engineering expertise to identify, verify, and remediate vulnerabilities.
As access is being provided free of charge, the initiative’s direct impact on near-term revenue is likely to remain limited. However, the program broadens Lightwell’s reach, strengthens IBM and Red Hat’s position in AI-driven cybersecurity, and could support the platform’s wider commercial adoption over time.

Break above $230 supports a move toward $244
The move toward $244, outlined in the previous analysis, remains in progress. IBM shares decisively broke above resistance near $230 and established a position around $235, keeping the previous target intact. As the price approaches $244, the probability of short-term profit-taking will increase. The base-case scenario remains a test of this level, followed by a pullback toward $235. Such a move would allow the shares to retest the former resistance as support.
A stronger recovery toward the $270–280 range, where the 50-day and 200-day moving averages are located, would require either a new fundamental catalyst or additional time for momentum to build.
