Atkinson Drive lane closure set as Hawaiian Electric upgrades underground utilities
Hawaiian Electric will close the mauka-bound right lane of Atkinson Drive from Ala Moana Boulevard to Kona Street, near the YMCA of Honolulu building, today and tomorrow between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The closure is necessary as crews work to upgrade underground utility equipment in the area.
Motorists should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes. The company aims to complete the work as efficiently as possible to restore full access to the roadway.
Hawaiian Electric previously closed the westbound lane of Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki in April for underground cable replacement and upgrades. The company has also alerted Oahu and Maui businesses about a coordinated scam targeting customers. These events come as the utility continues infrastructure and security updates across the region.
