AI layoffs limited in February

AI adoption has had a limited effect on employment so far, according to comments highlighted by James Pethokoukis. He points to Goldman Sachs data showing only 4600 employees lost their jobs due to corporate layoffs attributed to AI in February.

Pethokoukis also stresses there is no significant correlation between AI adoption and other measures of labor market slack.

Pethokoukis has recently commented on shifts in other sectors. He reported that Honda faces up to $15.7 billion in losses following changes to its electrification strategy. In another update, he noted that Morgan Stanley revised its 2026 outlook to include higher inflation and unemployment.
