Robert Friedland notes Kamoa-Kakula smelter producing 1,300 tonnes daily sulphuric acid
Kamoa-Kakula sulphuric acid output steady

The Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex is currently producing around 1,300 tonnes per day of high strength sulphuric acid as a byproduct of its smelting operations. According to Robert Friedland, when the smelter was commissioned in December 2025, the company expected to sell sulphuric acid at a price between 200 and 250 dollars per tonne. Market dynamics may have influenced pricing since the initial estimates. The production figure underlines the scale of byproduct output at the copper facility.

Friedland has previously called for innovation and faster development in copper mining as the sector faces increased pressures, according to his comments on the outlook for copper supply. He also said that Ivanhoe Electric’s Santa Cruz copper project will support U.S. energy security and industry, as reported in an earlier announcement on project development. These statements reflect his ongoing focus on copper’s strategic role in the global market.
