Accuray has released findings from a radiation oncology study indicating that helical TomoTherapy significantly reduces the incidence and severity of radiation-induced temporal lobe injury, particularly in T3 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients, while maintaining comparable tumour control rates.
The research utilized a propensity matched NPC cohort and observed improved outcomes with helical TomoTherapy compared to traditional approaches. These results highlight a potential advantage for clinicians seeking to minimize side effects in radiotherapy for advanced-stage NPC.
An earlier Accuray study reported that helical TomoTherapy delivered less xerostomia than VMAT in patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma due to improved parotid sparing (see article). Accuray has also introduced advanced systems, including Radixact and Helix, to support more flexible delivery of helical radiotherapy at ESTRO26 (see article). These developments have focused on enhancing precision and reducing side effects in radiotherapy for cancer patients.
