Meme coins yield six times more than the crypto market average
Over the past month, the average yield of meme coins reached 103%, six times higher than the crypto market’s average yield of 16%, according to Artemis data.
As reported by CryptoSlate, the highest gains among 19 meme coins were recorded by Dogecoin (196%) and Pepe (115%), followed by Bonk (70%) and Brett (63%).
However, many meme coins related to the U.S. presidential elections, such as MAGA, plummeted in the days following the election results, with MAGA dropping 72% in the past 30 days.
Market analysis platform Kaito AI revealed that as of November 14, meme coins accounted for 24% of investor interest. Approximately one in four crypto investors discussing topics on X is focusing on meme coins.
Other crypto sectors
Fewer than half of the crypto sectors outperformed the market's average monthly yield of 16%.
The "store of value" sector, which includes tokens like Dash, Litecoin, and Monero, led the way with a 48.2% increase. Tokens from first-generation blockchains like Cardano and Ethereum Classic, designed for smart contracts, posted gains of 47.1%.
Smart contract platforms such as Solana and Sui showed an average increase of 24.3%, slightly exceeding the market benchmark. However, the sector's overall growth was tempered by weaker performance from tokens like tomiNet, Celo, and Optimism, which reported losses during the period.
Other segments also delivered notable results. Tokens tied to oracles, perpetual trading DEXs, centralized exchanges, and general DeFi applications rose by 19.1%, 24%, 20.9%, and 20.3%, respectively. The real-world assets (RWA) sector matched the market average with a 16.8% increase.
On the downside, tokens from the AI and social media sectors saw negative yields of 1.6% and 4.6%, respectively. The data accessibility sector experienced the worst performance, falling by 14.6% over the past 30 days.
It's worth noting that the market cap of the meme coin PNUT surpassed $1.5 billion after its listing on Binance.
